Why does it have a distinct smell?
While eco-solve is totally non-toxic and the vapor it emits is not harmful, it does have a strong smell that may cause headaches for ultra-sensitive folks, so the precaution to use in a ventilated area is sound.
Why is OMS (Odorless Mineral Spirits) toxic
Odorless mineral spirits (OMS) are just as toxic as regular mineral spirits because it contains benzene, which is an odorless carcinogen in petroleum products and can do huge amounts of damage including cancer and death. This evaporates into the air, and you absorb the benzene through your nose, skin and eyes, which most people don’t realize. It then goes directly into your bloodstream. Eco-solve does not contain benzene or any other toxins.
Is it technically a solvent? What is in it?
It's technically not a solvent but soy oil that has had the fatty acids removed and then processed with soy esters. It's 100% soy but looks and behaves exactly like a solvent. Its composition is similar to that of essential oils - it's a very strong, completely non-toxic, concentrated natural liquid. Eco-solve doesn't leave any residues - it's very archival, non-yellowing, does not cause cracking, and adheres great.
How do I store it? Glass vs. plastic
Storing it in glass is definitely recommended more than plastic. It's a very strong substance so it may dissolve or warp a very thin plastic cup or bottle. It's similar to essential oils which are very strong and can dissolve some types of plastic.
How to dispose of rags? Is it flammable?
It is technically an oil - not a solvent, however all oils are combustible if left on a rag or something similar in a hot environment. Olive oil, linseed oil, walnut oil, etc. - all oils are the same in that way. Take care to dispose of it in a safe way. Some people have a metal bucket with a lid that they keep soiled rags submerged under water.

Product FAQs
Product FAQs
Are these paints safe for children?
The Natural Earth Paint is water-based and super easy to mix up and clean up with water. Used by adults and children for fun, easy crafts and art projects. I would recommend this paint for anyone that wants a quick, easy, non-toxic and natural paint to create with easy clean up with water.
How long do they last / are they permanent?
It will gradually wear away if left in the elements (rain) because it's not waterproof. It won't technically fade but will just wear off eventually. However, if painted on a wall or painting, they will last indefinitely.
Why should I mix my own paint when I can buy paint pre-made? We believe that the extra step of mixing your own paint is well worth the peace of mind of knowing you are using the safest and most sustainable paint on the market. Most pre-made paints on the market contain a variety of toxic chemical stabilizers, petrochemicals, fillers, and preservatives. Natural pigments provide an unsurpassed luminosity, depth of color, UV resistance, humidity resistance, and archival qualities. As soon as you have a liquid paint you need a preservative to keep it from going bad on the shelf - by mixing your own, there's no need for preservatives. Conventional paints are the "fast food" approach that the mainstream paint industry thinks consumers demand, but we believe our customers deserve better.
How long does the paint last after mixed?
The children’s paints in the Natural Earth Paint Kit are best used fresh. We recommend that you only mix as much as you need for one painting session, but the paints will stay good for several weeks if kept covered and refrigerated.
Can I dilute it with water?
The children's earth paint can be diluted with water as much as you want. It becomes more and more like watercolor as you dilute it.
Can I mix secondary colors from the Natural Earth Paint primaries?
The 9 colors we offer will not create color spectrum / primary colors that can be mixed to create secondary and tertiary colors. They are earth pigments, made of the earth and are all slightly earth toned. There's no way to mix a true purple with the earth red (venetian red) and blue and no way to mix a true color spectrum green with the earth yellow (yellow ocher) and blue (ultramarine blue).
